Guarding Your Crops With Practical Agronomy

CropGard is the backbone of Pence Group’s commitment to providing growers with practical agronomic data when it matters most.  Our CropGard scouting program is designed to impact decisions through the season.

With four scouting passes per field, we are there when you need us as a partner in the success of your farming operation.

Benefits of CropGard Scouting

TIMELY OBSERVATIONS

CropGard is designed to be there during those ‘in season’ moments that matter most.  We can increase your ability to observe and evaluate crops at critical times.

CROP IMPACTING DECISIONS

Should I replant or wait?  Season impacting decisions are game changing decisions and often need to be made quickly.

POWERFUL PARTNERSHIP

Especially when things get hard and confusing, it’s important to have partners that are in it with you in a way that tangibly makes a difference.

CropGard Scouting Protocol

EMERGENCE

During the “emergence” scouting pass, the scout should look for physical differences across the field using visual observations. Select areas that represent high elevation, low elevation, wet and dry locations along with other obvious trouble areas.

POST SPRAY

The Post Spray pass is when the corn is at V3-V5. The main purpose is to inform growers about weeds and insects in the field they can control via chemical applications.

FUNGICIDE

The Fungicide pass is primarily when the corn is at V6-V10. The main purpose of this field entry is to look closely for disease outbreaks in the field which we can communicate to the grower so they can control the issue via fungicide applications.

HARVEST PLAN

The harvest plan is a valuable process of analyzing yield, crop readiness and timing on harvest.

NDVI IMAGERY

The normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) is a simple graphical indicator that can be used to analyze remote sensing measurements, often from a space platform, assessing whether the target being observed contains live green vegetation.

DRONE SCOUTING

Adding drones to the scouting process can increase effectiveness through high-level observation from a vantage point only achievable by a drone.
